"A Study in Contrasts: Modern Poland and its Jewish History," with Allison Shapira
My guest is Allison Shapira, and our subject is her experience at the Harvard Kennedy School and her efforts to bridge the gap between modern Poland and its Jewish history. Allison recently returned from a trip to Poland with her husband’s grandfather who survived the Holocaust as a child.

Allison Shapira works at the Harvard Kennedy School, where she manages the Wexner Israel Fellowship Program at the Center for Public Leadership. She creates opportunities for Israeli public and nonprofit leaders to think strategically about ways to overcome their country’s leadership challenges.
Allison is also a public speaking consultant. She teaches at Harvard through graduate-level workshops and Executive Education and has worked with CNN analyst and former presidential adviser David Gergen on his graduate course The Arts of Communication.
Before coming to Harvard, Allison was the acting Consul and director of public diplomacy at the Consulate General of Israel to New England. She created marketing and public relations campaigns to raise public awareness of Israel, including an event where she sang the National Anthem at Fenway Park for the Red Sox in 2004.
Allison is a recent graduate of the mid-career master of public administration program at the Harvard Kennedy School and holds a bachelor’s of arts degree in Italian literature and opera performance from Boston University. She is fluent in Hebrew and Italian, is working on her Spanish, and has studied 7 other languages.
