Becky Rolnick discusses her film "The Beauty that Remains" and how hope emerges from the fires of war.
My guest is filmmaker Becky Rolnick, and our subject is her film about Teeba, a victim of the Iraqi War and how an American family trys to put a broken life together again.
Becky Rolnick grew up in Highland Park, NJ and is a proud alumna of Rutgers University where she earned her BA in Political Science and Journalism. She has worked as an independent filmmaker and television producer, director and editor for over a decade and is thrilled to be producing/directing her first documentary feature, The Beauty that Remains (www.thebeautythatremains.com).
Throughout her career, Becky has worked on a wide variety of projects for clients large and small, including ABC’s documentary reality program The Real Roseanne Show (produced by RJ Cutler), PBS’s nationally televised and Emmy-award winning children’s series FETCH! with Ruff Ruffman, and WGBH’s (PBS Boston) video archive Teachers’ Domain.. She recently produced and directed her second season of the WGBH Auction Broadcast Series, including producing, directing and editing a collection of short-form video biographies about New England artists.
Becky earned her Master of Fine Arts in film production from the prestigious University of Southern California’s School of Cinema-Television in 2000 and has been invited to participate as a guest lecturer at both USC and Rutgers. In her third year as a graduate student, Becky was awarded the Mary Pickford Scholarship for Excellence in Editing and Academic Achievement. Becky’s thesis film, A World Apart, has played in film festivals around the world and was purchased for television broadcast. In 2005, Becky started a small production company called Blink, LLC (www.blinklifeonfilm.com ). Through Blink, she has had the privilege of producing short films and PSA’s for dozens of non-profit organizations.
Becky currently serves as a member of the Anti-Defamation League New England’s Regional Board, and was recently honored as a recipient of the Krupp Leadership Award. She is the immediate past co-chair of the executive council for PRISM – the young adult network for the New Center for Arts and Culture in Boston, and is an active volunteer in non-profits throughout the country. Becky was honored to be one of the top 200 directors for the Spielberg/Burnett Fox program On the Lot in March 2007, and one of the top 250 Filmmakers for the 2002/2003 Project Greenlight Director’s Competition.
Becky has lived in New Jersey, New York, London and Los Angeles, and currently resides with her husband in Boston.
